The Carol Brett Memorial Fund

With the sad news of the passing of Carol Brett, Celebration Barn lost one of our most steadfast and dedicated members. I want to thank all of you who have written or called to express your kind thoughts and condolences.

Many of you have asked how best to honor Carol's memory, and in discussion with Carol's sister, Nan, we have set up the Carol Brett Memorial Fund here at the Barn. We are honored to establish this fund in her name.

In her eighteen years as our Executive Director and her many years as a volunteer and Board Member, Carol was deeply passionate about the Barn and all the amazing people who have passed through these doors. Without her, this incredible community would not be what it is today.

Carol believed that part of what has always made the Barn a special place is the woods, the gardens, and the peacefulness. She understood why Tony Montanaro chose this beautiful old barn, away from all the noise and distractions. It is the beautiful setting and atmosphere that makes the Barn such an inspiring place. Carol took special joy in tending the gardens and preparing the space for the arrival of new students and old friends each and every summer.

It seems only fitting therefore that we honor her memory now by dedicating the Carol Brett Memorial Fund to making the Barn a more beautiful place to live, study, and create new work. From planting flowers in the gardens to adding new furnishings to the student rooms, this fund will continue the work that Carol put so much of her heart and soul into.

Donations may be made payable to Celebration Barn Theater with an annotation to the Carol Brett Memorial Fund. Your gift in her honor will be greatly appreciated by all.

Again, our deepest thanks for your kind words and support.

Remembering Carol with love and gratitude,

Mandy

Carol Brett (1955 - 2009)

Celebration Barn wouldn't be the international center for physical theater that it is today if it weren't for the two decades that Carol Brett dedicated to the organization. As Executive Director for eighteen years, she not only continued the legacy of our founder, Tony Montanaro, she built upon it. She expanded the programming to include a diverse, international faculty in a wide variety of disciplines. She was a tireless advocate for the Barn's unique, personal style of theater. Through this, she encouraged new generations of performing artists.

Carol dedicated herself and her resources to providing opportunities for students, teachers, artists, and audiences to celebrate the creation, performance, and experience of original, live theater.

After she retired as Executive Director in 2007, Carol continued to serve on the Barn's Board of Directors. In addition to offering counsel in all areas of operation, she volunteered at every show over the past two seasons and was particularly active on the Board this past fall during our strategic planning process. Even during the last two months, Carol was working to enable Celebration Barn to have a growing impact on the theater community worldwide.

Without Carol, we and so many, many other people, would not be embarked upon the careers we have today in theater. Without her, we would not be enjoying the amazing legacy and continued vibrancy of Celebration Barn. For her many years of dedication and boundless generosity, we are forever grateful.
