SoulWork: Devising Activism

with Cristal Chanelle Truscott

July 31 - August 5

$500 (5 Days)

JUNE 13, 2017:  We are sorry to announce that Progress Theater will be unable to conduct this year’s SoulWork: Devising Activism workshop due to circumstances beyond their control. If you would like to pursue future training opportunities with Progress Theatre, we encourage you to contact them through their website: http://progresstheatre.com/. Thank you!

SoulWork is useful for artists and ensembles creating their own work and for those seeking to dynamically engage and mount the work of fellow artists as a means of addressing issues around social justice and consciousness, cultural awareness and cross-community dialogue.
This workshop will introduce artists to using SoulWork as an aesthetic tool to create safe spaces and emotionally-invested experiences both in process/rehearsal and in performance within the ensemble and with audiences/communities to enhance the work of using art as community-engaged activism.
SoulWork is a comprehensive methodology of acting, directing, playwriting, devising, script analysis, ensemble-building and community engagement designed to create heightened levels of emotional sincerity and evoke circumstances that elicit a visceral response or, more esoterically, that elicit “soul” and the exchanges of soul between the artist and the audience/community.
