A Sneak Peek at 2007
December 11, 2006
Here it is: a sneak peek at our summer 2007 workshops! We’ve got new workshops on Lecoq Technique, Collaboration, and Exploring Musical Performance (with Grammy nominee Deborah Henson-Conant!). Take a look and start planning your summer trip to the Barn!
June 25-30, Linklater Voice Workshop, with Louis Colaianni
Louis Colaianni, one of the foremost Linklater Voice Teachers, offers this five-day workshop that outlines the entire Linklater Voice Progression. The workshop goes far beyond an exploration of vocal apparatus. It addresses the voice in a physical context; in which speaking and listening involve the entire body.
June 25-30, Comedy Writing, with Scotty Meltzer
This intensive class will cover joke structure, jamming, modeling, polishing, editing, switching and the secret to great comedy. It will be focused on helping variety acts and physical comedians create new material fast and improve existing material over time.
July 2-7, Young Performers Theater Camp, with The Odd Company
This intensive introduction to physical theater, for ages 13 18, will help young performers come alive on stage. From creating eccentric characters and writing original comedy sketches to juggling and improvisation, this workshop provides tools to develop material that is both amazing and hilarious.
July 9-14, Exploring Musical Performance, with Deborah Henson-Conant and Karen Montanaro
This workshop is designed for musicians who are interested in developing their own personal style of playing and performing. From strengthening stage presence to creating a new show, this workshop caters to professionals and pre-professionals who want to be as powerful as their instrument!
July 16-21, Mime, Dance, and Alexander Technique, with Karen Montanaro and Christine Sullivan
This movement workshop is for every body. Whether you want to study and refine your movements or move with spontaneity and abandon, you will experience both extremes and everything in between during this week. In short, this course allows you to experience the joy, freedom, intrigue and excitement of moving.
July 23-28, Art of Storytelling, with Milbre Burch and Antonio Rocha
Two world-class kinetic storytellers who shared a mentor in Tony Montanaro have joined hands to further the legacy he left to spoken word artists. Milbre Burch and Antonio Rocha will present a workshop in honing the storytelling artist's instruments of voice, body, heart, memory, and imagination.
July 30-Aug. 11, Eccentric Performing, with Avner Eisenberg and Julie Goell
Eccentric Performing is one of the most personal and paradoxical of theater forms: it can be ingenious or dim-witted, skillful or blundering. Above all Eccentric Performing is funny! Open to performers of all abilities, this workshop explores bare-bones, red-nosed clowning in the search for the personal Eccentric performer.
Aug. 14-18, To Be Announced
August 20-25, Introduction to Lecoq Technique, with David Gaines
Learn what "Lecoq training" is all about, from the only American to have taught alongside Lecoq himself at his school in Paris. Use of space, neutral acting, and the principles of movement for performers will be covered in one week of exercises that will impact the way you approach making theater.
August 27- Sep. 1, Theater Collaboration, with Davis Robinson and David Gaines
Who better to teach a workshop in collaboration than two artists whose companies have years of international touring success! For performers who work in ensembles or are interested in collaborating with others, this workshop will provide tools to jumpstart group creation, provoke dynamic play and develop new material.
There it is! We hope we’ll see you next summer!
