Celebration One Month Intensive

with Davis Robinson, Karen Montanaro and Guest Instructors
July 2 - July 28, 2012

We're thrilled to expand the Intensive workshop this year to offer a full month with master teacher Davis Robinson who will be joined for the second two weeks by Karen Montanaro. Through a schedule of daily classes in movement, improvisation, premise work, physical graphics, principles of mime and ensemble building, you will push the boundaries of creative theater. Afternoon master classes with world-class guest teaching artists will strengthen and diversify your skill set. Evenings will provide an opportunity to perform your own work inspired by daily assignments.

Each week will lead to new challenges and increasing levels of risk and collaboration. The natural world surrounding the barn, music, literature, current events, and the human condition will be used as prompts for devising original material in groups, solo, and duets. A full month will allow for a comprehensive exploration of several dramatic terrains, from clowning to tragedy. People who arrive at the workshop with existing ideas for material will be encouraged to push their work in new directions, to test their strength and resilience with new technical skills, and to open up new avenues for exploration in an intensive and supportive atmosphere of creative joy and mutual discovery.

His book The Physical Comedy Handbook was published by Heineman Press in 1999.
