Commedia dell'Arte - Improv Italian Style with Julie Goell
July 17 - 22, 2006
"Commedia is just known characters in unknown circus-dances" - Carlo Mazzone-Clementi
Taught by a vibrant practitioner of the art, this introduction to Commedia dell'Arte delves into mask work and the idiomatic characters who wore them, setting them in motion to play off one another.
Julie Goell trained in Italy and has now been a teaching at Celebration Barn for fifteen years. This summer, she will take the group through beginning to advanced techniques in movement, voice and improvisation in a safe and relaxed atmosphere.
Each student will learn to "carry" the mask and create lazzi (sight gags), and character-based monologues and scenes. This is an essential workshop for contemporary actors, directors and theater teachers wanting to learn the "art of the professionals."
