Exploring Musical Performance

Deborah Henson-Conant & Karen Montanaro
July 7 - 12, 2008

This is a workshop for musicians and performers who want to maximize the power and presence of their musical performances. Learn how to turn your music into a visceral experience for yourself and your audience.  In the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Edith Piaf, Bette Midler, Victor Borge, The Talking Heads, Liberace, Deborah Henson-Conant, you will find and develop your own stage persona.

That is to say, you will learn practical techniques for embodying your art, your instrument, your mind and ideas.  Bring your instrument to life as an extension of you and a conduit of your sound.  Find a comfort and freedom on stage that feels as right on the inside as it looks on the outside.

Morning classes will focus on the theater, movement and physical improvisations to enhance performers comfort with their bodies and their instruments. Afternoons will be devoted to music with both group classes and private coaching sessions.  Evenings will offer time to share works-in-progress for feedback and critique.

The workshop goal is to help performers transitions from their current level of performance to the next level and develop the art of playing in their OWN individual style.
