Comedy Writing

with Scotty Meltzer
June 25 - 30, 2007

This intensive class will cover joke structure, jamming, modeling, polishing, editing, switching and the secret to great comedy.

It will be focused on helping variety acts and physical comedians create new material fast and improve existing material over time.

Students will learn comedy writing methods including Greg Dean's Joke Map & Joke Mine, Mike Goudeau's Assumption Lists, Dan Holzman's Four Step Process, Ben Decker's Implied Meaning, Gene Peret's Two List System, and Scotty Meltzer's Shameless Exploitation of Other People's Methods Method.

"We will work together on creating new routines and making your existing routines funnier. You are encouraged to bring in ideas and routines you're already working on. For two to three hours each morning we will learn new methods. Then we'll talk about comedy over lunch. After lunch we will work on new material for two to three hours. Then we'll talk about comedy over dinner. Each night we will perform our routines and everyone in the group will try to help us improve them."

Timing.
